This week, guest blogger Heather Chastain, Electronic Media Coordinator with the YMCA, shares how you can make your New Year’s resolutions last all year long.
January is over … but hopefully you haven’t gotten over your resolutions! If you started the New Year with the best intentions and find yourself waning, here are some tips to make sure you meet your goals and keep at it all year long!
- Set smaller, attainable goals. Don’t set a goal to lose a specific amount of weight. Instead, concentrate on losing 10% of your current weight in 6 months. Meet with a Wellness Coach to determine your goals and how you can reach them so you’ll see long-term success.
- Don’t let one misstep get you off track. If you were too tired to go to the gym on Monday morning that doesn’t mean you should give up on the whole week — or abandon your goals entirely! You can get right back on track tomorrow. Join a group exercise class or make an appointment with a personal trainer. It will help you stay accountable and encourage you to get to the gym to work out!
- Check all your bases. Are you working out several days a week, but not seeing a lower number on the scale? How are your eating habits? YMCA members get two free appointments with our registered dietician. She can help you make a plan that fits your lifestyle.
Try to develop an exercise and nutrition plan that works best for you and before long you’ll have a regular routine established. At the Y we believe everyone can meet their goals, and we’re here to help! If you ever need us, reach out on Facebook or Twitter (@ymcaindy) or simply stop by your local Y!
