FitCity Indianapolis and other initiatives like Let’s Move and Project 18 have a common goal: to share resources, information, recipes and fitness tips to help change the eating and activity habits of the next generation and to decrease childhood obesity. This week’s news links start with news you can use to change your children’s habits since good habits start at home. We also include a link to recipes that are perfect for these hot July days when cooking a “hot” meal is the last thing you want to do.

Sitting down for a family dinner can be difficult, but it definitely has health advantages.  According to this study, kids who sat down for a family dinner had lower BMIs and ate more vegetables.

Runners, walkers come out for race against prostate cancer
We are probably in the middle of 5K season, as there are many local events this summer and fall to help raise funds and awareness for a number of causes. Congrats and thank you to those who participated in the Unite 2 Fight Race Against Prostate Cancer.  If you’re thinking about getting ready for an upcoming 5K, check out our free walk/run program.
