Weekly News Links Week of August 10

Posted by Eleather Baker on August 14, 2009 in Fitness and Health Tips, Nutrition, Weekly Links

Last week we talked about Awesome August, with its mix of family fun and back-to-school readiness activities. What a difference a week makes! This week, many Indianapolis area kids are in their classes, and parents are once again juggling the demands of work, homework, after-school sports, music lessons and a host of other activities.

We still think that August is awesome (there’s still nine more days of the Indiana State Fair and hopefully plenty of warm weather for outdoor activities), but this month is also extremely busy. This week’s edition of our weekly news links is all about getting back on track for back to school.

Here’s a story about how one program helped keep kids active this summer. As part of the INShape program, Lifestyle Family Fitness provided free summer gym memberships for Central Indiana kids, and it sounds like the kids are pumped up about fitness as they head back to school.

One more thing: As FitCity mom Lisa Vielee detailed in this week’s FitCity Moms Blog, kids may not always get the exercise they need during the school day, so remember there are plenty of after-school and weekend activities on our FitCity calendar for you and your family.

We hope everyone gets off to a great start this school year!
