This time of year is probably my favorite time of the year. I love planning my garden that will nourish us throughout the summer and into fall, I love being able to run outside instead of on the dreaded treadmill, I love the greening of the outdoors, I love decluttering and organizing, and I love knowing that I am well on my way to being able to wear my bikini this summer at the pool!
In the past month, I have lost 10 pounds due to my new outlook on taking time for myself (and due to the YMCA membership that was part of my winner’s package). Part of this time for me has been training for my sixth Indianapolis 500 Mini-Marathon which will be followed by the Geist Half Marathon two weeks later (my entry into this Geist Half Marathon was also part of my winner’s package). This is the first year that I will be part of the “Month of May Club” that recognizes all those that took place in both half marathons. I am excited and nervous about completing two long races in such a short time frame, hopefully my training will allow me to do so without injury.
As my training has increased, amazingly my appetite has decreased. Well, maybe not my appetite exactly, but my cravings. I have always been an “everything in moderation” girl and would have a small piece of dark chocolate when my sweet tooth hit. Now, however, those cravings are gone and I have started back up my love affair with smoothies.
Smoothies are a GREAT way to incorporate all kinds of vitamin filled goodies into your day. I would love to share with you my favorite smoothie recipe (and one that kids will drink too!) and encourage you to try it out instead of grabbing that milkshake at the drive-thru. The best part about this smoothie is that it is a part of my spring cleaning routine because it is filled with ingredients that help cleanse your system! Enjoy!
- 2 cups water
- 2 bananas
- 1 apple
- 1 orange
- 1 lemon (optional)
- 1-inch chunk fresh ginger (optional)
- 1 head of romaine, spinach, chard, beet greens, or kale
Directions:
- Add the water.
- Fill your blender half way with fruit and ginger then the rest of the way with greens. Depending on the power of your blender, you may need to add slowly while blending.
- Blend for 1-2 minutes, or until very smooth.
- Drink immediately or store in refrigerator for up to 3 days.
