Making a resolution to live healthier by exercising more and eating better has not worked well for me in past years. It is a great start, but I find myself trying to survive the immediate and drastic changes I made to my lifestyle rather than focusing on the long-term results.
Although I have good intentions, this year I’m going to approach my resolution-making a little differently. I have to be realistic and know that I can’t go from not exercising at all to going to a gym each night or from eating 2500 calories a day to 1200 calories over night.
That is just a resolution for failure.
Instead, I am going to be determined to make better choices that will enable me to adopt and sustain a healthier lifestyle. Here are my first three small steps:
- Join one exercise class or walk for a half hour three days a week. Thanks Kelly for inspiring me to do this with your IndyHub post on trying out different fitness classes.
- Drink more water.
- Snack less (including sweets).
We’ve posted a few other small steps over on FitCity’s Facebook page . What tips would you add to the list that can quickly be put into practice?
P.S. Here’s one other step I’m planning. Whole Foods Market is offering free classes on how to shop for healthier food on a budget. Do we have great partners or what?
Be sure to stop by Whole Foods Market on Wednesday, January 13, for their Community Day benefiting FitCity! Five percent of all net sales from the day will go to support FitCity Indianapolis. I will be at the stores at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m., as will our FitCity Moms, to share other tips, hand out healthy snacks and share information about FitCity. I hope to meet you!
