Get prepared for a healthy vacation

Posted by Danielle on July 26, 2010 in Danielle Spears, Family Activities, Fitness and Health Tips, Outdoor Activities

We are taking our first family vacation this week and so far it’s been quite a lot of work.  While sitting here typing this out I am thinking of everything I still need to do to be ready.  Pack, do laundry, clean, halt our mail, get directions, etc.  I’ve already invested a lot of time into this trip. Needless to say it has been a little stressful for me.  Luckily I had already started yoga  to help deal with stress.

Even though we are going on vacation it doesn’t mean we are getting away from our routines - be it exercise or eating healthy.  I have planned out everything very carefully for my family so no matter what, there will always be an activity to do.  We won’t have our toys, books or Wii games and I know my kids might get bored so I’m prepared for that.

Since we will be away from home and away from my normal exercise routine I have even planned out what I will do there. I’m not a runner or jogger but, luckily, there are quite a few different options.  There are bike rentals, which we can do as a family; there is the pool and ocean so I can go for a swim. There are tons of places to go walking so I will try that as well (even though it will be around 95 degrees).  I have also found exercise studios where I can get away from the family and just go be by myself and take a class.

The prepared mom I am I have also rented a condo instead of a hotel so that I can still cook our meals.  I plan on hitting up some local farmers markets and getting great fresh fruit and veggies that I normally might not be able to get in Indianapolis.  I also can’t wait to get some fresh seafood and try my hand at that.

This will be a great time to try and get my kids away from junk food, sodas and high sugar juices.  We will be all natural and I like it. It just takes a little bit of planning.   Speaking of which, I have to finish packing.
