We hear about the mind, body, spirit connection and integrated care as a means to stay healthy and balanced. As I’m getting older, I’m learning how much it’s true and necessary. My biggest issue is stress and how to manage it in a healthy manner. Stress can be the fuel that drives some people. I know that I can zoom through stressful situations and attack the situation head on but it can be tiresome to my spirit and my body. I’m learning to sllllllooowww dowwwnnn.
This week was a great example of my body responding to stress. I got sick. My body wasn’t able to perform the p90x workout routine. I was fatigued and worn out. My immune system just couldn’t keep fighting and said, “Hello cold, come on in!” YUCK. So I had to get remember to REST. Rest is so important to healing and sleep is also important to maintaining a healthy weight. Here’s an article about how getting more sleep may help us control our weight.
We need to pay attention to our bodies. We need to manage stress. Here are some ways to reduce stress:
- Yoga
- Meditate or Pray
- Exercise
- Change your eating habits
- Find a hobby
- Listen to music
There are so many things you can do. Find something that fits your lifestyle. For me, even just drinking a cup of tea calms my spirit. For so many of us, this is a busy time of year. The holidays are coming up. Slow down. Your body will thank you for it.
