My 3 Favorite Indy Parks + 1 Park Worth the Drive

Posted by Jennifer Stringer on April 5, 2012 in Family Activities, Jennifer Stringer, Outdoor Activities

I say all the time that Indianapolis is blessed to have many not-so-hidden gems. They’re called parks.

Since spring is officially here, now is the time that I really take advantage of all the parks have to offer. I thought I’d share my favorites, and then maybe our blog readers can add some of theirs. Here are my favorites (in no particular order):

1) Eagle Creek Park. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been to Eagle Creek. I’ve been there for family reunions, swimming, Nature Center programs and more. You can picnic, bike, fish and go boating. I’ve been there with kids, with extended family, with my dog at the bark park, and on a rare occasion I’ve been able to take a walk all by myself! This park has it all — and I heard they’re adding a zipline, so a great park is about to be greater!

2) Holiday Park. I’ve been to this one for years as well — mostly for after-school meetups when the kids were little. I  remember their playground as the perfect spot for my two kids (who are four years apart) to stay happy and content for hours.

3) Northwestway Park. Their walking path is quite the popular spot. You’ll see families, couples, older people, teens and tweens enjoying the 1.6 mile path around the park.

And for my final addition to the list, I choose Hummel Park in Plainfield. I am a westsider, so I head a little further west for great bicycle and walking paths, playgrounds and picnic areas.

I am adding Wes Montgomery Park (it has a new spray ground!) and the updated Juan Solomon Park, to my list of parks to visit this year. What parks am I still missing out on in Indy?
