By the end of June I was sounding like a broken record: “I feel so tired,” “I feel so out of shape.”
“I this…” and “I that… .” I was honestly starting to feel hopeless. My Hispanic circle of friends was in the same rut. The ending to most of our conversations spun around this theme. We probably went through the Spanish dictionary selecting words to describe our situation. Ay, ay, ay. Que triste.
And remember how I blogged a couple of …

I do a lot of things in the community, and one of those is I’m the Executive Director of an organization called the Center of Wellness for Urban Women (CWUW). We are a young nonprofit targeting woman and their families to be empowered to live healthier lives.
Something we started doing last year a walking program on the Canal. It’s a very relaxed program with the goal of getting women and men walking at least 30-60 minutes one day …

We are taking our first family vacation this week and so far it’s been quite a lot of work. While sitting here typing this out I am thinking of everything I still need to do to be ready. Pack, do laundry, clean, halt our mail, get directions, etc. I’ve already invested a lot of time into this trip. Needless to say it has been a little stressful for me. Luckily I had already started yoga to help deal with stress.
Even …

Last week, I came across an article on the Huffington Post that reported the consumer watchdog group the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) intends to sue McDonald’s because Happy Meal toys “unfairly and deceptively” entice children into wanting the food.
Seriously? Where is the weight of parental responsibility? The last time I checked, small children were not driving themselves to McDonald’s, cracking open their piggy banks and ordering a 4-piece chicken nugget Happy Meal with fries and …

FitCity Indianapolis asked reader Cheryl to write about her experience with finding her healthy weight, including her participation in Weight Watchers. Below is her story of the good, the hard and the cravings that still haunt her.
For 195 days now I have been a Weight Watcher’s participant. The plan is fairly straightforward. The support structure is awesome – from my family, my fellow WW group, the WW staff and my employer — Angie’s List.
Angie’s List not only brings …

If your family has been relatively sedentary, boosting up the activity level can be a challenge. If your family doesn’t eat much fruit or veggies, adding those into the daily diet can be a hurdle. Even on a personal level, sticking with big changes to diet and activity level and exercise can be a real struggle.
Prior to making these changes to …

In June we took a family vacation to Hilton Head Island. To my understanding it has been the best vacation ever. Not because there were amazing amusement parks waiting for us to visit them. Or because we had a great vacation “agenda” to follow the 6 days we were away. No, really there was nothing to do. Nothing except one thing, bike-ride. And bike-ride we did.
If you’re a golfer, you will find lots to do here, but for …
